Norte Dame Study Abroad: Rome seminar provides rising seniors an immersive experience in some of Italy's most revered cultural treasures. With a focus on built environment, Notre Dame faculty and staff will guide students in their exploration of this fascinating city, introducing them to art history, architecture, anthropology and culture of the Eternal City. Norte Dame Summer Program offers 300 talented rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to experience a taste of college life while exploring a field of study at the college level with Notre Dame faculty. Over 20 courses will be offered from June 25 to July 29 in the following areas: arts, business, humanities, and the natural and social sciences.
Mercy College School of Business Leadership Academy is designed for current high school juniors. Students mus have a 3.5 or above. Most importantly students should demonstrate leadership and public speaking skills and an interest in Business.
MedEx is a comprehensive program hosted by Greenville Health System that caters to students interested in healthcare as a career field. This internship explores different career options available and puts students in contact with those willing to help them achieve their goals. EPL Program Emerging Public Leaders (EPL) program is an exciting nine-month service-oriented leadership experience open to rising high school seniors. It begins with a summer program on Furman's campus (June 19-24, 2016), in which students will learn to lead in diverse settings, engage in the community, analyze critical issues, lead ethically, communicate effectively, and plan a service project to be undertaken in their home communities. GE Tutoring The GE Volunteers will once again offer after school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:00 p.m. in the Media Center beginning Tuesday, September 29. Students will receive one-on-one academic assistance in the core subjects. Teachers are asked to make recommendations based on 1st quarter progress report. Recommendations forms are due September 25th.
National Merit Scholars Semifinalist 2015 Congratulations to seven SHS students for qualifying as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. These talented students will compete for 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth about $32 million. Scholarships will be awarded in the spring. Southside students were: Vaibhav Bafna, Kathleen Beaudoin, Nathaniel Boen, Ellen Chen, Emily Chen, Anna Hardison and Lillian Meng. Upward Bound Math Science State Institute The Morehouse College Upward Bound Math/Science Regional Institute is designed to provide 70+ eligible students, currently enrolled in high school throughout the Southeastern Region of the United States, an intensive six-week summer curriculum. This program assists students to develop critical thinking, scientific, analytical skills and effective expressions. Students will be given the opportunity to work in various labs and get hands-on computer experience. Students will be given exposure to a variety of science, math and engineering careers. Student also will experience innovative instructional methodologies. Further, students will be provided with the opportunity to interact with their peers from different regions of the southeast, which in turn, fosters an environment of diversity and friendship. Applicants must be currently enrolled in the 10th or 11th grade in a school located in a school located in the Southeastern Region (AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, and TN). Applicants must be classified as a first generation student and must meet the federal government guidelines for low-income families. If accepted, full participation is required.
